How pantoprazole works
Pantoprazole lowers the acid production in the stomach.

Pantoprazole is used in the treatment of acidity, heartburn, intestinal ulcers and stomach ulcers.

 

The following is a list of possible side-effects that may occur in medicines that contain Pantoprazole. This is not a comprehensive list. These side-effects are possible, but do not always occur. Some of the side-effects may be rare but serious. Consult your doctor if you observe any of the following side-effects, especially if they do not go away.
Sensation of whirling and loss of balance
Increased risk of bone fractures
Severe itching of skin
Constipation
Abdominal pain
Rash body temperature
Diarrhea
Headache
Blurred vision
Inform your doctor if you do not feel better after taking it for 14 days as you may be suffering from some other problem that needs attention.
Pantoprazole can decrease magnesium levels in blood. Get your magnesium levels checked regularly. You may need a magnesium supplement or need to discontinue your medicine. 
Inform your doctor if you are suffering from osteoporosis as Pantoprazole can weaken your bones by decreasing calcium levels in blood. You may need a calcium supplement, preferably calcium citrate.
Pantoprazole is a well-tolerated medicine and provides relief for a long time.
It may take a few days to show its effect. You can take an antacid for a quick relief during this time unless your doctor has asked you not to use them.
Once you start feeling better, do not stop taking your medicine. Take it for the duration as advised by your doctor.
If you use other drugs or over the counter products at the same time, the effects of Pantoprazole may change. This may increase your risk for side-effects or cause your drug not to work properly. Tell your doctor about all the drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements you are using, so that you doctor can help you prevent or manage drug interactions. Pantoprazole may interact with the following drugs and products:
Atazanavir
Erlotinib
Itraconazole
Ketoconazole
Methotrexate
Nelfinavir
Hypersensitivity to Pantoprazole is a contraindication. In addition, Pantoprazole should not be used if you have the following conditions:
Atrophic gastritis
Broken bone
Clostridium difficile bacteria related colitis
Inadequate vitamin B12
Interstitial nephritis
Low amount of magnesium in the blood
